Hey y’all! Are you finally back in the swing of things after a glorious long weekend? We celebrated the Presidents with a mini road trip!
Our friends Mark and Angela, and their sweet daughter Rose, invited us up to North Conway, NH. Their family vacation home is in a prime location, near skiing, outlets, and tons of fun summer activities. Her parents bought the house back in the 80s and have converted a tiny ski chalet into a spacious all-seasons home that can sleep an army!
Whenever I travel, I always pick up a copy of the local paper. If we’re in a small town, it’s usually filled with wedding notices, birth announcements, a charmingly dull police log, and local events. The Conway Daily Sun did not disappoint!
While Sam squatted in Rose’s playhouse, I flipped through and found the 3rd Annual Cupcake Battle hosted by Mountain Valley Promotions. The stars aligned and it was held between morning and afternoon naps- it’s like the universe wanted me to eat copious amounts of sugar.
This Cupcake Battle had three categories: kids, home bakers, and professional bakers.
First up- the kiddos!
Angel food cupcakes made with pineapple and topped with Cool Whip
Taste the Rainbow Cupcakes
Mint Explosion Cupcakes
2nd place: Banana Split Cupcakes
1st place: Lemon Up Cupcakes. Lemon cake topped with lemon buttercream and crushed lemon heads. Puckery goodness! Fun fact- the 2nd place and first place kids were sisters- talk about sibling rivalry!
Next: the home bakers!
Carrot Cake topped with Cream Cheese
2nd place: Tropical Cupcakes filled with Pineapple Curd and topped with coconut rum buttercream
Tied for 1st place in the home baker category: Caramel Calypso Cupcakes- caramel filled cinnamon cupcake topped with vanilla bean frosting
Tied for 1st place in the home baker category: Dark Chocolate Stout Cupcakes topped with Irish Cream frosting
And finally, the professional category!
2nd place: Dark Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Frosting
1st place: David’s Caramel Apple Spice Surprise Cupcakes. The surprise was chunks of cheddar in the apple topping- so unexpected and delicious!
While not all the cupcakes were as tasty as they looked, I was impressed and inspired by the creativity! In fact, Angela and I are already talking about hosting our own cupcake battle here. Stay tuned!
