Happy Friday, y’all!  The weather here on the south shore of Massachusetts is dry and cool- a glimmer of the perfect Fall season to come. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to spend the whole day outside.  I even went for a run with the jogging stroller and the wee one this morning.  He loved the breeze blowing through his hair and pointed out all of the big trucks that passed us.

My family is up from Texas and they are truly relishing the New England climate.  Since it’s still close to 100 degrees everyday in Dallas, sitting outside is not an option unless dehydration and sweat are your thing.

But here in lovely Massachusetts, you can grab a cup of hot coffee, a bagel sandwich, and a slice of life changing coffee cake from Morning Glories Bakery in Scituate, Massachusetts and eat it on their patio.

Life changing coffee cake, you ask?  Can there be such a delicacy?

Oh, yes.

Come to mama.

Cranberry Apple Coffee Cake at Morning Glories Bakery Scituate MAThey serve both blueberry coffee cake and cranberry apple coffee cake.  What truly sets this coffee cake apart is the texture of the cake.  It’s dense and rich and just a tiny bit crumbly.  I’m not sure, but perhaps it’s a yeast dough- it’s got a bit of tang to it. There is a hint of vanilla in the cake, but most of the flavor comes from the cinnamon crumb topping which is mixed with either blueberries or cranberries and apples.  I ate an entire (huge) slice by myself and savored every crumb.  I’d recommend getting a few slices if you’re sharing.  It’s pretty irresistible.

What your favorite bakery treat?
