Betty Crocker is my Julia Child.  Julia Child always seemed a little too lofty for me.  I’m a home cook that  needs to get dinner on the table while wrestling a toddler.  Boning ducks and cooking live lobsters are just not in my wheelhouse.  But Betty, she presents easy dishes and techniques that simplify my life and still give me great food to serve.

I’ve written about my love for Betty Crocker a few times.  I read her “biography” and she is a fascinating character.  Even though she’s fictitious, Betty Crocker has inspired generations of women and men to get in the kitchen and bake.  Men even used to write her love notes and proposals and I can’t blame them.  Who wouldn’t want to marry the wonderful Ms. Crocker?

On a trip back to Dallas back in 2010, I stumbled upon my holy grail: a first edition copy of The Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook which was first published in 1950.  It’s filled with sage advice about how to set an elegant table and recipes for everything from deviled eggs to coffee cake.

I’ve cooked several dishes out of the cookbook:

Merry Christmas Cookies

Thin Mint Coffee Cake

Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake

Each sweet treat turned out perfectly- when you cook out Betty Crocker’s cookbook, you just want to put on your pearls and make her proud.

And now, it’s your turn to be inspired by Betty!  I found another 1st edition copy of The Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook and I want to share it with you.

To enter to win, all you have to do is like my Facebook page.  For additional entries- share my page with your friends.  Every like or share is an entry to win a 1st edition copy The Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook. Giveaway will end on August 30, 2013 at midnight. I’ll randomly select one winner. Content open to US residents only. This is not sponsored by anyone- cookbook bought with my own money. **If you’ve already liked it, then you’re already entered!
