The Ravioli Festival on Saturday at Alfredo Aiello’s Italian Foods in Norwell, MA was a blast! There was live accordion music, cannoli, anise cookies, and ravioli galore. They were serving two or three of each type of ravioli. Such hearty portions meant this was my lunch. Yum!
Traditional ricotta filled and ground beef filled ravioli. Both are super hearty. I loved their red sauce- full of fresh tomato flavor without being too tart or sweet. Eggplant ravioli and spinach ravioli in cream sauce. Vegetarian, yes. Boring, no.
The surprise of the afternoon came from the Buffalo Chicken ravioli in a blue cheese alfredo sauce. It was perfect. I heard other patrons raving about it, too.
And they make great cannoli! This was another fun surprise. If you’ve had bad cannoli, then you know why this excited me. Sometimes cannoli can be really, really bad. (I’m looking at you, yellow cream filled cannoli. Blech!). These cannoli had a crisp, fresh shell and sweet, creamy marscapone or ricotta filling. Samtried his first one- loved it! But then, what’s not to love?
Inside Alfredo’s there’s so much more than ravioli. Like I said on Friday, their meat and cheese case is wonderful. Freshly cut capicola, sopressata, salami, provolone, and more. And of course, pasta of every shape and size, fresh and dried.
If you don’t want an Italian feast for Monday night dinner now, then I didn’t do my job very well. Cheese and red sauce for everyone! Alfredo Aiello’s Italian Foods is at 72 Washington Street in Norwell, MA with other locations in Quincy and Canton.
What did you do this weekend?
