Wednesday Wine Talk, Donuts, and Recipage

Just popping in this afternoon for a quick hello.  We had a busy morning- walk with friends, playground time, home for lunch, cleaning, dancing, naptime, baking.  I feel like I just came up for air.  Now I’ve got a spice cake baking in the oven (I finally showered) and all is right with the world.

Wednesday Wine Talk:

Let’s talk about wine.  I love it and drink a lot of it.  I guess “a lot” is subjective.  I drink maybe one glass a day, 4-5 days a week.  During the summer, I love a cold glass of white wine.  Pinot Grigios and slightly sweet Rieslings are my favorites.

Now that it’s autumn, I’m craving big, bold reds.  Nothing else will do.  I bought a bottle of Pinot Noir a few weeks ago.  It was tasty, but just not bright enough to suit my taste buds.  I had a similar issue with Malbec.  I want my red wine to taste like berries and jam and smoke and spice.  Is it five, yet?  No?  Ok, I’ll just keep talking then.

My two favorite reds right now are Gnarly Head Cabernet Sauvignon and Apothic Red, which is a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.  Both are bright and juicy, without any weird oak taste.  I can’t be the only oak-hater, right?  Gross.

Dishing on Donuts:

I had my first (and likely last of the season) pumpkin spice donut from Dunkin’ Donuts today.  It was tasty, but I know there are better donut shops on the South Shore that deserve my patronage more.  Plus, their coffee stinks.  (Please don’t hate me, New England.)

I visited Supreme Donuts in Brockton last weekend- you can get great donuts AND great coffee there.  Win!

I’ve been slowly updating and tweaking my site to make it even easier for y’all to use.  If you visit my Recipes page, you’ll see the biggest and best change: Recipage!  It is a fantastic plug-in that I’m using my self-hosted WordPress site. You enter your recipes into and it categorizes them and makes them searchable.  It links back to your original post and users are automatically included in their recipe search database.  If you’re a food blogger, I highly recommend it.

Because it just feels wrong to have a post without any pictures, here’s one of me from New Year’s Eve 2009.  I’m dressed as a cupcake.  Can’t you tell?  The tutu and white hearts around my neck is my frosting and I was a wearing a white skirt as my wrapper.

  • I’m right with you on the wine! I LOVE it and like you enjoy cold in the summer, big, juicy, reds in the winter. Our favorite is a Petite blend by Michael David (who has amazing wines) called Petit Petit. I highly recommend it!
